Insomnia

Hope everyone had a great weekend. It is now 1:45 a.m., and I can't sleep. I've been writing and reading blogs out here in bloggyland. Evidently I'm not the only one with insomnia, because I noticed some of you are posting at this hour as well. That's the great thing about the internet. It connects all time zones and countries. You're never at a loss for reading material, and if you don't like what you read on someone's blog, you don't have to stay or pretend interest.

A lot of blogs, I noticed, are full of beautiful digital images. I don't own a digital camera, but I do have a scanner. Some day maybe I'll take the time to scan some photos in for you all, but being the lazy blogger I am, I doubt it will be anytime soon. I did get a wonderful photo of my son yesterday for Mother's Day, and another beautiful portrait of my nephew, who finally has hair!
I just wish I could get all my photos in those albums in the closet. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just wave a magic wand and that be done...among other things.

I did get that little research trip taken care of over the weekend. CWGIII had a sleepover at school to end the year, so hubby and I mosied on over to Perry County. I had to laugh when I saw the town. Alot had changed in twenty years. I've been writing on eighteen year old memories. I was glad I made the trip so that I could change some little details that most people would never realize were incorrect. Imagine my surprise to find that the little one horse town now had a Dollar General, a Fred's, and a Sonic, not to mention THREE stoplights. Two of the landmarks I mention in the novel are no longer there at all. One has been replaced by a bank, and the other is an empty gravel lot. Sigh. But does it really matter? Those two details do not have much bearing on my story, but anyone that is from that area would know how dated my details were. My little apartment was still there, and hubby and I speculated on how much the rent had gone up from my measley 200 dollars a month in 1988. I imagine quite a bit.

Alas, time marches on and effects almost every aspect of our lives. The one bonus of getting older is that you don't require near as much sleep. It's a good thing too, or else my wip might never get finished. Good night all. Wake me up early...and don't forget the coffee. I take mine black.

It's nice to know that you don't require as much sleep as you get older. :-) I'm only 1 year younger than you, and it seems like I require lots of sleep, though I don't get it most of the time. I blame it on blogging. :-) Up til midnight or 1am sometimes, then up at 5 for work.

Scanning and posting are a lot easier than it may seem. In fact, the only difficult thing, (and it really isn't that much of a pain,) is resizing the pic so it isn't a huge file for someone's Internet connection to load, yet still look good on the blog.

Well, off to work. I hope you have a good day.

Sleep is such a strange thing, so many different opinions on how much we "need". I usually sleep about 5 to 7 hours anight. I kind of trained myself between baby and reading to function on less sleep than 8 hours. I don't know if it's good or bad. One year I slept between 11 and 3:30 I would wake up like a zombie and force myself tea or coffee...I admired someone who wrote a lot and read a lot and that was the hours they kept. I read about 300 books that year. But it was really hard to fit into everyone elses schedule when I kept that restricted time slot for sleep.

I do manage quite well on five hours. Six is a cake walk!

I think pain, stress, and poor nutrition is actually what makes elderly people "appear" to need less sleep. Often they wake up because of pain, and then they are lonely, or restless and get stimulated and can't go back to sleep. I think older people are able to "put on a good face" with less sleep but I don't know if they just require less sleep.

As a bartender for years, I notice younger people are not able to handle less sleep, they always go without sleep partying and keeping strange hours but they fall apart constantly. Meanwhile all the working parents I've known just bake and read the paper clean the house, go to bed after their kids wake up before them and go go go.

So I don't know. I know that going with less sleep took a change of attitude for me, to stay peppy and happy I found new resources within my character rather than the sleep renewing my resources. Down that make sense?

Um, thanks for stopping by my blog and saying hi Ms. Green great to "meet" you!! I've just quickly breezed through a couple of your posts, but think you are a fine writer and look forward to hearing and reading more.

Cheers,
Candy

I hope you finally got to sleep. At least you can blog when you can't. Our computer is in our bedroom; I think my husband would kill me if I started blogging in the middle of the night!

P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Diet Coke in hand......I am doing my morning blog-surf! 1:45 a.m.! YIKES!

I have been having some trouble getting to sleep lately--but hate waking up during the middle of the night. When I was peri-menopausal....it happened regularly. I'd wake with a start at 2:13 every morning! What's up with that....exactly 2:13!!!! Every morning! Couldn't get back to sleep until 5:30'ish....just in time to wake up with the alarm at 6:00 a.m. Needless to say--after a couple of weeks of that...I was a grumpy peri-menopausal momma!

Hope you get a full nights rest tonight! Any time for a nap today?

Diane

Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm assuming that Maggie is YOUR dog. It's always fun to write about your pets. They're all so different in personality.

I'm one of those "gotta write" people too. Have been doing it since elementary school, but most of it is personal writing of one sort or another. Don't think I have the endurance it takes for a novel; maybe when I have more time. Good luck with your's.

I don't usually have insomnia, but my husband and I both were wired last night and it was 12:30 before we finally crashed. I think the "decaf" we ordered in the restaurant last night was camouflaged as regular.

I scan and upload my pictures. I don't have a digital camera either, although one would be fun. The scanning takes a while, but it's cheaper than the camera!

I don't have a digital either, but I'm always scanning pictures onto the computer for some reason or another; to make album pages, e-mail to family and friends, etc. It does take some time, but even with a digital you have to take the time to upload them if you want them on your computer.

Lol, the town you described sounds like the one I grew up in. It's strange seeing the differences as change takes shape in a small town.

Seems like so much can change in less than a year. We're getting a huge Walgreens in the middle of the downtown area of our small town. I just wonder how long it will be before the rest of the old buildings will be torn down and replaced with new ones or made into a gravel lot.

Just checking in to see what you were up to and I see you're still doing well on your novel.

I have insomnia a lot too and I don't usually get more than 6 hours a night. There's just so much I want to do and not enough time to get it all done.
